Finnet-Media's 'Be the Boss' Service, Now with Free Mobile Maps and Route Instructions

The 'Be the Boss' (Pomopalvelu) service produced by Finnet-Media Oy and executed by Satama is a software application for smart-phones. It finds out the details of unknown callers automatically before the user answers the call. The latest new features are maps and route instructions. The map services are available at the cost of data transfer.

"In practice, what the 'Be the Boss' service does is that when you get a call from a number that is not stored in your phone's memory, the service automatically finds out the caller's details and displays them on the screen as the phone rings. This gives you a chance to be the boss - to only answer calls that you really need or want to answer. The new map feature has been developed in response to a special request made by users of the 'Be the Boss' service. We asked for Satama's advice on choosing the map supplier, after which Satama configured and executed the introduction of the new component," explains Kimmo Haapaniemi, Business Manager at Finnet-Media.

"The 'Be the Boss' service in an excellent example of a useful, easy-to-use mobile application. Adding maps and route instructions was a natural next step in the evolution of the service. By combining the map components with the earlier advanced search function, Finnet-Media is now able to offer its customers an even more comprehensive and enticing package," says Kari Kemppi, Business Unit Director at Satama.

"These mobile map services are the latest fruit of WM-data's development efforts and are based on the very latest map service technology. This technology allows us to display large map materials on mobile phone screens without sacrificing dynamism and user-friendliness. The 'Be the Boss' service is a good example of how our goal of covering a wide range of users makes our map services suitable for mobile devices as well," says Kari Partanen, Director at WM-data.

The service is especially useful for businessmen who receive a lot of calls from people that they do not already know. The service saves the users time and money, as it is no longer necessary to call directory enquiries to find out the identity of the caller. The service is available only in Finland.

Karttakone Ltd. has developed the map functionality for the 'Be the Boss' (Pomopalvelu) service utilizing RaveGeo -streaming vector technology. Karttakone has acted as a subcontractor for WM-data in the project.
